Final fundraiser event for this 2012 campaign (thank goodness!) We had an awesome time, and were truly honored by the unexpected arrival of the DNC Chairwoman, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. What a great night!
Upon being elected as your Sheriff, I retired from the Iowa Army National Guard. The Soldier that replaced me was (now) 1SG Todd Eipperle. He got deployed with an embedded training team not long after that transition. He was in the convoy where an Afghan Security Officer opened fire and killed SFC Terry Pasker (from Cedar Rapids) and his interpreter. Todd returned fire and during the fire fight was hit multiple times. He killed the security officer and saved both his and other's lives. He was recently decorated with the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor. It was an honor to be there when he was recognized for his bravery and it is an honor to call him my friend.
As a veteran, it was nice to visit with the state of Deleware Attorney General, and son of the US Vice President, Beau Biden. Four years ago, he was stumping for his father and took a personal tour of the BHC jail. He is a great guy and a fellow Iraqi War veteran.

Throwing out the first pitch for the Waterloo Bucks was a great honor... spending time with my family at the ball park, PRICELESS!
The campaigning has truly started as our first parade of the season kicked off in downtown Waterloo for My Waterloo Days. Awesome weather and great crowds made this parade a joy to participate in... thank you for all the cheers and support shown during this parade, what a blast!
As Sheriff, it was my honor and my privilege to host and facilitate this year's Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Service for Black Hawk County. We honored 13 fallen officers from several Black Hawk County agencies, and changed the way we did so. I appreciate the opportunity to pause and pay homage to these officers who paid the ultimate price in service to our citizens.
Memorial Day Parade in Waterloo... It was my privilege to escort the colors with a World War II veteran (and fellow 40 and 8'er!)

And the fundraising event itself... we had a great time raising nearly $10,000 for the Boy Scouts of the Winnebago Council!
Deputy Joe Stafford, Deputy Tony Meyer and I at the "Wikked Wings" eating contest. Fundraising with Waterloo Fire Rescue for smoke detectors for low income families. The three of us didn't fare as well as Deputy Isaac Jerome, who won the contest and saved our honor!!
